Life Imprisonment for Ebru Tekin’s Murderer

In the case of Ebru Tekin, who was killed in the middle of the street by her ex-husband, whom she divorced, the verdict was rendered in the fifth hearing, and the court concluded that the murder was not planned.

In the case at the Batman 1st High Criminal Court, the judge sentenced the defendant Muhammed Dinçer to life imprisonment.

The prosecutor demanded aggravated life sentence for the accused Muhammed Dinçer for "killing by design" and demanded that discretionary reduction not be applied.

Arrest was also requested for his friend Azad Kılıç, who was with the accused at the time of the case.

The defendant's lawyer stated that his client did not plan the murder and passed by by chance at the time of the incident, and claimed that he was carrying a gun with him because he has enemies.

On the other hand, lawyers Mehmet Akdağ, Seçil Erpolat and Batman Bar Association Women's Rights Center lawyers Dorşin Şıkgenç and Gülbahar Demir, demanded in their defense that the accused should be sentenced to "murder by design".

Aggravated Life Sentence

Attorneys Mehmet Akdağ, Seçil Erpolat, Batman Bar Association Women's Rights Center lawyers Dorşin Şıkgenç and Gülbahar Demir, speaking to the Women’s State of Solidarity Association expressed their surprise at the court's decision.

“We were surprised and saddened that the defendant who committed murder by shooting nine bullets in the middle of the street was said to be "no murder by design". Our objection regarding Azad Kılıç, who was with the accused at the time of the murder, will also continue.

The lawyers, who said that in cases where femicides were seen in Turkey, the defendants claimed that they committed the murder "under unjust provocation" and that they benefited from the discount, argued that this situation was an incentive for other people.

The lawyers said, “But the court did not apply any reduction in sentence in this case. The way to stop femicides that happen every day is to apply deterrent punishments and the Istanbul Convention, which protects women.
